MARCH 2, 2004 ELECTION UPDATE

Canvass procedures will begin Wednesday, March 3. Results from the March 2, 2004 election are SEMI-OFFICIAL.

There are thousands of outstanding absentee and provisional ballots that remain to be counted. An estimated number will be available later this week.

We will begin work Wednesday on processing the absentee ballots turned in at the polls and received in the mail on Tuesday.

The law allows 28 days to complete the canvass and do our final certification of the votes cast in Santa Cruz County. The Secretary of State has 39 days to compile results from the 58 counties and certify the election.

Our processes are open to the public and we have "Observer Guidelines" on the front counter.
