NOTICE OF ELECTION & DEADLINE FOR FILING ARGUMENTS Notice is hereby given to the qualified
electors of Santa Cruz County, California, that the primary election will be
held in Santa Cruz County on March 5, 2002, for statewide, congressional, and
state legislative offices, as well as four Superior Court judges, county
supervisors in the 3rd and 4th districts, county
department heads, and party central committees and county councils. The central
counting place for counting ballots on March 5, 2002 will be the Santa Cruz
County Elections Department, 701 Ocean St., Room 210 in Santa Cruz. Polls open
at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Nomination
Papers and Declarations of Candidacy are available from the Santa Cruz County
Elections Department, 701 Ocean St., Room 210, Santa Cruz, CA, 831-454-2060,
open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. Nomination
Papers and Declarations of Candidacy must be filed by 5 p.m. December 7
at the County Elections Department at the address above. Nomination Papers and Declarations of
Candidacy will not be accepted after 5 p.m. on December 7 unless the incumbent
does not file; under that scenario, the filing deadline is extended five days
to 5 p.m. December 12 for anyone other than the incumbent to file. Notice
is also hereby given that the Soquel Union Elementary School District has
ordered an election on March 5, 2002 for a $15 million general obligation bond
to repair and renovate all five existing schools at their current locations
(not including Jade Street Park). Pursuant to Government Code §53531, the bonds shall not bear a rate of interest greater than 12 percent per year payable as permitted by law. And, pursuant to Education Code §15120, the number of years the whole or any part of the bonds are to run shall not exceed 40 years, from the date of the bonds or the date of any series thereof. Friday, November 16, 5 p.m., is hereby
fixed as the final date on which arguments for or against the above measure may
be filed with the County Clerk Richard W. Bedal, Elections Department, 701
Ocean St., Room 210, Santa Cruz, CA 95060-4076 for printing and distribution to
the voters as provided by law. Arguments may
not exceed 300 words in length.
