Director Boulder Creek Recreation & Park District Education and Qualifications: As the community of Boulder Creek grows, its residents' recreational needs also grow and change. Previously functioning primarily as a facilities provider, Boulder Creek Recreation & Park District (BCRP) now is needed to provide programs and services as well. BCRP has felt keenly the stress between local traditions and the expanding role its growing community demands of it. As an active volunteer with BCRP, I have seen this conflict firsthand, and remain excited about the future. I feel qualified to help this organization keep its best traditions while making the changes necessary to embrace the future. I have many ideas: programs by and for the elderly, open recreation, movie nights, tennis and swimming lessons, organized excursions, home repair classes, arts and crafts --and more! With these ideas I bring common sense with experience in organizing large events. I have been a volunteer in backstage production for several benefit concerts. As our district grows, so do its fiscal responsibilities. I have a strong business background: In my twenties, I started and ran my own medical answering service; I followed this with a successful sales career in technical software. Please give me your vote and a chance to make BCRP a more vital part of our community. |
Director Boulder Creek Recreation & Park District Occupation: Small Business Owner Age: 51 Education and Qualifications: The Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District is a political subdivision of the State. This local special district is governed by a five member Board of Directors elected by the 6000 voters of the District within its boundaries in Boulder Creek and Brookdale. Since the District is not under County jurisdiction, your Board answers only to it's public. The Park District is better than it was four years ago. As your representative to the Board I worked to approve the following policies and actions:

Statement of MARGIE MARTIN, Candidate for Director Boulder Creek Recreation & Park District Occupation: Accountant, Enrolled Agent Age: 35 Education and Qualifications: I am seeking a position on the Board of Directors of the Boulder Creek Park and Recreation district. I have been a resident of Boulder Creek for 17 years. I have three children and during those years, we have used the districts facilities and programs extensively. The availability of these facilities and programs are a tremendous asset to this community. We are truly fortunate to have the variety of programs that are provided by the District. I want to see these programs continue in addition to adopting new programs to meet this communitys needs. My main goal, if elected to the Board, would be to work on consensus building among the Board members so the Board could work more efficiently for the Park and Recreation Department and the community. I have a strong financial background as an accountant and would strive for financial responsibility and accountability. The Boulder Creek Park and Recreation Department is a valuable community resource, which needs to be managed responsibly. I intend to help provide that. Sincerely, Margaret Elisabeth Martin Enrolled Agent |
Statement of JANETTE ANDERSON, Candidate for Director Boulder Creek Recreation & Park District Occupation: Bookkeeper Age: 49 Education and Qualifications: I am seeking this position because I feel the Rec. District could benefit from my experience. I have office management skills and I have attended every meeting for over 5 years. I have sat on many of the district committees and am very familiar with the operation of the Rec. District. I agree with those on the board who have been trying to establish personnel files, employee job descriptions, and put contracts out to bid. It is my wish to cut wasteful spending so we can spend our public funds on recreation programs for all age groups. There are a couple of current directors who have been striving to increase direct spending on public recreation. The current board majority is proposing only 7 1/2% of the 2000-2001 budget for funding of recreation programs. They spend 40% of the budget for general administration, 20% for maintenance, and 7 1/2% for programs. I feel that the mission of the district should be to provide wholesome, safe, and meaningful recreational opportunities for the citizens of our community. I don't see this being achieved and I would like your help and the opportunity to work toward that goal. Your vote can count. |
