Statement of PAUL H. WATKINS, Candidate for
Director
Scotts Valley Water District

Occupation: Hospital Administrator Age: 43

Education and Qualifications: Having served on this board for the past four years, I have a good understanding of the water issues facing our District and surrounding community. I was instrumental in developing plans to ensure we have an adequate water supply and system for the future.

Scotts Valley Water District has been the leader in the area of reclamation and, in-fact, the only agency in the County to:
  • Build a water recycling plant
  • Establish a plan to return water supplies to the 1988 level
  • Establish a no new water demand policy
  • Require all new hook-ups to pay a recharge fee

The Water District does not approve development, but rather, is required to provide meters to those who have projects approved by the City or County. With these plans in place we will be able to do this without impacting water supplies if further development is approved.

My personal education and experience includes:
  • AA, BS, and JD Degrees
  • Former Police Officer and Fire Fighter
  • Attorney
I have much enjoyed my service to the Water District and would appreciate your vote to continue to do so.
Statement of MARGO G. HOBER, Candidate for
Director
Scotts Valley Water District

Occupation: Retired Financial Officer Age: 61

Education and Qualifications: Over the past few years information about the adequacy and quality of our water supply has often been unreliable. I realize that the question of "do we expect to have enough water" is not easily answered – and in fact we have been given very different answers. It would seem prudent to err on the side of caution in preserving and protecting this very precious resource. Our entire quality of life will be affected if we do not ensure an adequate water supply.

  • 23 year resident of Scotts Valley, raised 3 children here.
  • Educated at San Jose State University - degree in elementary education. Taught 3rd grade in Sunnyvale for 4 years.
  • Full-time homemaker for several years – then returned to SJSU part-time and ultimately earned an MBA.
  • Spent over 20 years doing accounting and finance - 15 years as Chief Financial Officer.

Because I believe that our water supply is absolutely critical, I want to be involved in safeguarding it. If elected, my top priority would be to protect our water supply - and maintain Scotts Valley as a great place to live.
