Karina Cervantez Alejo
State Assembly, 30th District
Party Preference: Democratic
Occupation: Educator/Vice Mayor Age: 36
As a daughter of farmworkers, I grew up understanding how hard my family struggled everyday to make ends meet. It’s the story of many of the families throughout our region. I am the first in my family to graduate from college, earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and am a PhD candidate from UC Santa Cruz.
My life in public service has been dedicated to creating safer and healthier communities by working with at-risk youth, developing leadership and after-school programs and working as an educator at CSU Monterey Bay.
In local government, I have been an effective voice for working families. As mayor, I expanded prevention programs for youth, and strengthened our police, fire and emergency response services. I continue to strongly advocate for affordable housing and bringing good jobs to our region.
Representing a new generation of leadership, I believe in the importance of lifting up the most vulnerable in our communities, expanding opportunity and ensuring that everyone has a pathway to the middle class. I'm dedicated to creating more jobs, supporting agriculture and small businesses, keeping college affordable, and investing in our water storage infrastructure.
I am committed to serving our community and I am proud to be the only candidate officially endorsed by the State Democratic Party, local law enforcement, teachers, school employees, nurses, and hundreds of local leaders like you.
This June 7th, I respectfully ask for your support for State Assembly.
