Community College has shaped my life and career in so many ways. Like many young people, college seemed out of reach due to high costs. My parents made too much for me to qualify for financial aid but not enough to afford a four year degree out of pocket.
After I earned my degree in Politics and Latin America & Latino Studies at UCSC, I took classes at Cabrillo in Construction and Energy Management to do my job better in developing affordable housing. Community college was the place that kept the door open to achieve my goals of a four-year degree and for many others it’s the first step to realizing their goals.
As trustee for Cabrillo College, I hope to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure that their needs are met to teach students at their greatest potential. Listen to students about the challenges they are facing and work towards eliminating those barriers. Furthermore, I hope to work with the community to ensure that Cabrillo promotes diversity, treats everyone equitably and is a safe and inclusive place for all.
